Introduction:
I got back into the tutorial today and focused on the torch pickups, finished the current ‘level’ design and added some lighting.
Torches:
I had previously created the torch pickup item for the player to take, but today I added the interact keybinding for the player to actually take the torch. It works, but does have a bug where the torch still exists in the game world until I spam the interact key a couple of times.
..and Torches:
Going through the Quixel Bridge library I was able to find a metal hinge that I ended up using as a kind of sconce for the torch to attach to on the wall. I like the overall outcome, but it is a bit hard to see the metal on the wall, something I could improve at a later time.
Conclusion:
With all of it put together the ‘level’ turned out pretty nice. I added some coins to help guide and reward the player and a few platform jumps that the player must maneuver to get to the end of the level. For fun I also added a yellow spot light that illuminates the doorway to the next level, something the player can obviously see from a distance once they look in the right direction.
